Government House Museum, Tortola.
The Museum is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 2pm. The original structure which dated back to 1899 was destroyed by the a hurricane of 1924. The present structure was built on the same site in 1925-26 and was the home of Commissioners, Presidents, Administrators and Governors up until 1999 when it was initially condemed. The building would have been demolished except for protests from the community that the historic building should be preserved. The Old Government House has recently opened as a museum.
The Baths are a maze of granite boulders, some as large as 40 feet in diameter, along the southwest coast of Virgin Gorda. They are an impressive site and worth the 10 minute walk along the boulder strewn path.
The Copper Mine on Virgin Gorda are the ruins of a factory built, in 1860, by experienced miners from Cornwall, England. On their arrival in the BVI in 1838, these Englishmen brought with them modern mining techniques, which they taught to the residents of Virgin Gorda.
