Less than 2 hours from Sydney, historic Abernethy Guest House is easily found at the gateway to the Hunter Valley Wine Country, NSW, Australia. No longer operating as an "Hotel" and meticulously restored, Abernethy House provides comfortable accommodation in a pleasant and relaxing venue for those wishing to enjoy the varied attractions the Hunter Valley has to offer.

Once the old hotel Bar Room, the spacious Guest Lounge now provides a convivial atmosphere to socialise or relax and be absorbed into history.
A short local scenic bushwalk is recommended for working up an appetite before breakfast. We haven't lost a guest yet! Susie (the dog) knows the way!
For the serious hiker or nature lovers, over 60kms of trails meander through the adjoining State Forest.
Historic sites are as much a feature of the Hunter as are the Vineyards, with it's monuments to early beginnings.
Within a short walk of Abernethy House are the ruins of Aberdare South Colliery, which closed in 1927. Now the adjoining lake provides a haven for nesting birdlife.

How to reach us by car
From Sydney, NSWF3 to Newcastle, Hunter Valley.
Take the Cessnock, Kurri Kurri turnoff
Drive along Freemans Dr. until you get to the Mobil Service station
Sign says to Cessnock, Kurri Kurri? Drive up the hill for 12 km.
Turn into Lake Rd. on your left. Sign says Cessnock, Branxston
Drive for 7 km, turn left into Kearsley Rd. (Becomes Ferguson St.)
Drive 2 Km. and you are at the guest house.
From North Coast
By car: At Hexham Bridge (Hunter River) turn right and follow signs to Kurri Kurri along John Renshaw DR.
(Do not turn at start of F3 freeway roundabout sign-posted Sydney)
After 15 km turn left at round about to Sydney /Toronto. Proceed 8 Km to Lake Rd. , turn right towards Cessnock, Branxton.
After 7 Km turn left at Kearsley Rd. to Abernethy. Proceed 2 Km to Guest House.
