Algonquin Park is Ontario's oldest, largest and best known Provincial Park. The park was established in 1893 and comprises 7725 square kilometres of forest, lake and river. This is 1.5 times larger than Prince Edward Island, ¼ the size of Hawaii, the same size as Wales, ¼ the size of Belgium, 3 times larger than Luxembourg, and 7 times larger than Hong Kong!

The park is home to over 260 species of birds, 40 species of mammals, 20 species of reptiles and amphibians and 1,000 species of plants.

Algonquin Park is considered to be one of the finest moose-viewing areas in the world. There are an estimated 3,300 moose residing within the park (1 for every 2 square km). There are an estimated 2,000 black bears (one per three square km) living in Algonquin Park.

With over 200 resident wolves the park has been a centre for wolf research since 1959.

How to reach us by car

From Toronto: Take Highway 401 East to Highway 115. Go north of Peterborough to Highway 7 East. After about 10 minutes turn left onto Highway 28 north (formerly Highway 134). Follow Highway 28 to Paudash at Highway 118 (formerly 121). Turn left (west) onto Highway 118 and then turn north on County Road #648. Past Highland Grove turn right (north) onto County Road #10 (Elephant Lake Road). Drive 16.6 km, and 1.4 km past Benoir Lake Rd. watch for our sign on the left side of the road (past the lumber mill). Just past Fire Route #3658.

From Ottawa: Take Highway 417 west to Highway 17 west. Turn left onto Highway 60, and then west on Highway 132 and follow it onto Highway 41 south, and then to Highway 28 west until Bancroft. Take Highway 62 north until Maynooth, then turn left onto County Road #10 (Peterson Road) and follow it for 18.1 km. Watch for our sign, on the right hand side of the road, just before the lumber mill, and 1.4 km before Benoir Lake Rd. Just before Fire Route #3658.
