In a beautiful rainforest setting beside the mighty Belize River sits a jungle paradise where horses roam freely. Parrots, toucans, macaws and many other colorful birds will greet you with a ‘tropical Hello’ while monkeys play in the trees. Horseback riding is a big feature at Banana Bank and beginning riders will be taught the basics of riding by the ranch's owner, John Carr, a renowned horse whisperer, or a seasoned wrangler who is also fully qualified. We specialize in your safety as well as ensuring an adventure of ‘upward banks and downward slopes’ through the dense tangle of the jungle. You’ll be matched to a well cared-for quarter horse according to your riding experience, and your sure-footed steed will carry you under a canopy of cohune palms while winding through vines cascading from tropical trees adorned with bromeliads. You may hear the call of howler monkeys. As you ride along side the river, your guides will talk about the medicinal properties of the vegetation as well as uses of the trees and types of wood. During the ride, your wrangler/guide will offer to take photos of you on horseback with your own camera to get that ‘oh so rare’ picture of the whole family. If you care to trot, or have a fast lope along the road, talk to your lead hand to arrange a ‘hold back ~ catch up’ event.

More things to do include a cooling boat tour along the river. Stroll through the grounds and meet Tika, the majestic jaguar, raised at Banana Bank from a cub, two adorable monkeys and an assortment of tropical birds. Check out the floor of the aviary for glimpses of more exotic wildlife and tour the gallery of fine paintings depicting scenes of Belize. Both nature and Belizean culture is expressed in beautiful oils. Painted with love for her adopted country, the artist, Carolyn Carr, has captured life in Belize both past and present.

Family style dinning on down home wholesome food and Belizean dishes is a favorite at the lodge. The staff is helpful, friendly and will ensure your stay at Banana Bank is an unforgettable experience.
